St. Michael-Eppan, Appius, Alto Adige 2014

Chardonnay 54%, Pinot grigio 24%, Sauvignon blanc 12%, Pinot bianco 10%

Description

Appius is the name given by the San Michele Appiano winery to a blend of outstanding white grapes, often referred to as the “wine of dreams,” as Hans Terzer defines it. The grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation (except for Sauvignon) and are aged in barriques/tonneaux. After nearly a year, they are assembled and further matured on the lees for three years in stainless steel tanks. The meticulous work of selecting the grapes during harvest and in the blending phase has achieved a true sensory alchemy. The contribution of each grape variety does not stand out distinctly but rather gives rise to a perfect harmony.
