Alois Lageder Merlot Sudtirol – Alto Adige 1999

Merlot 100%

The Alois Lageder Estate has been deeply committed to the Merlot grape variety for several decades now. In Magrè, where our family settled since 1934 after acquiring the Löwengang estate, the ideal conditions prevail for cultivating Merlot. Following the success of its great French cousins, Merlot, along with other Bordeaux varieties, has been cultivated in Alto Adige for over 120 years. Pure Merlot grapes are used, sourced from selected vineyards in Magrè and Ora. The vineyards are situated at an altitude ranging between 230 and 320 meters above sea level, featuring sandy, stony, and limestone soils. The vines’ age ranges between 13 and 58 years. Harvesting takes place throughout the month of September. It is followed by vinification, including fermentation and maceration of the must in steel tanks. Lastly, the wine undergoes refinement after completing full malolactic fermentation in steel tanks, wooden barrels, and concrete tanks.
