Frescobaldi, Castello di Nipozzano, Mormoreto, Toscana IGT 1996

Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 25%, Cabernet Franc 12%, Petit Verdot 3%

Description

The red wine “Mormoreto” is made from grapes grown in vineyards located at an altitude of 250-300 meters above sea level with a sunny south exposure. The soils are quite diverse, with areas featuring sands, soils rich in alberese (limestone), clays, calcareous soils, and white soils with protruding stones. The vines are trained using the cordon spur system, with a planting density of 5800 plants per hectare and an average vine age of 20 years. The blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by a good percentage of Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese, with a small contribution of Petit Verdot. To accommodate the different ripening times of the grapes, each variety is fermented separately in steel tanks with controlled temperatures below 35°C and with maceration on the skins for about 3 weeks. The wine matures for 24 months in French oak barriques, partly new and partly second passage, and completes its aging with 6 months in the bottle.
