Chateau La Nerthe Chateauneuf-du-Pape 1996

Syrah 100%

Description

Being a symbol of Château la Nerthe’s production, this cuvée is undoubtedly expected to live up to the estate’s excellence and its terroir. The estate conducts a slow vinification process in stainless steel or wooden vats, with regular pumping over and punching down. After alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is left to rest in barrels. Depending on the type of wine, they choose small new barrels of one or two wines, large oak barrels, or wooden tanks. After 12 months of aging, the crucial moment of blending arrives. Château La Nerthe is one of the three largest vineyards in the appellation, one of the oldest, and certainly one of the most beautiful properties. Starting from the 17th century, wines produced by Château de la Nerthe gained great fame. During that time, its reputation expanded throughout Europe, exporting to England, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Situated southeast of Châteauneuf, the vineyard sits on entirely stony ground and represents the richest part of pebbles in the entire region. Accumulating heat during the day and releasing it at night, these pebbles enable excellent ripening of the grapes.
