Villa Poggio Salvi, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 1997

Sangiovese 100%

Description

The Brunello di Montalcino from Villa Poggio Salvi is a red wine of great character obtained from pure Sangiovese Grosso grapes originating from vineyards situated between 300 and 500 meters in altitude. These vineyards are located in the southern part of Montalcino, an area influenced by the breeze from the Tyrrhenian Sea and protected by Mount Amiata, creating a particularly favorable climate for viticulture. The vines that give rise to this Brunello are between 15 and 40 years old and are cultivated using the spurred cordon method with southwest exposure, in soils rich in galestro. The winery, now owning approximately 20 hectares of vineyards, is managed by Pierluigi Tagliabue, who was one of the pioneers in the 1970s to decide to focus on the Montalcino territory. The Villa Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino is produced with carefully selected grapes, hand-harvested towards the end of September. The clusters undergo a cold maceration for about 8 days before being crushed and destemmed. Alcoholic fermentation then takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel containers for several weeks. After the completion of alcoholic fermentation, the wine is separated from the skins and undergoes maturation for at least 30 months in large Slavonian oak barrels before being bottled and released to the market.
