Tenuta Col d’Orcia, Rosso di Montalcino 2012

Sangiovese 100%

The Rosso di Montalcino wine originates from one of the estates that has significantly contributed to the success and fame of the Montalcino region in Tuscany. Col d’Orcia is located in the southwest area of the renowned Montalcino hill, in the Sant’Angelo in Colle zone. The estate spans 140 hectares, managed in full respect of the environment under certified organic agriculture. The grapes come from Sangiovese grosso vineyards cultivated on the Sant’Angelo hill at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level, with a sunny south-facing exposure. After the harvest, the clusters undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26-28 °C, with a maceration on the skins lasting about a dozen days. The wine matures for 9 months in Slavonian oak barrels ranging in capacity from 75 to 150 hectoliters, in oak tonneaux, and in concrete tanks. The maturation period concludes with several months in the bottle before being released to the market.
