Mazzei, Castello di Fonterutoli, Siepi 1997

Sangiovese, Merlot

The Sangiovese and Merlot grapes of Castello di Fonterutoli’s “Siepi” – Mazzei come from vineyards covering a fully vitiated area of about 650 hectares, distributed across seven subzones with different altitudes. The Siepi location is situated at approximately 260 meters above sea level with a south/southeast exposure, ensuring sunlight for a significant part of the year, allowing the clusters to fully mature by harvest time. The age of the vines ranges from 22 to 35 years. Harvesting is done manually at two different times: for Merlot, it occurs in early September, while for Sangiovese, it takes place at the end. In the cellar, the must is vinified in steel, where it also rests for about 3 months. It then matures for 18 months in French oak barrels.
