La Spinetta Sassontino 2004

Sangiovese 100%

The history of the Rivetti family begins in 1890 when Giovanni Rivetti left for Argentina, leaving his family in Italy. It was his son, Giuseppe, who started laying the groundwork for establishing a winery. He began producing wine, and in 1977, the Rivetti family settled in La Spinetta, Castagnole Lanze, where they started producing their first red wine, Barbera Cà di Pian. Recently, the Rivettis also acquired vineyards in Grinzane Cavour, where they built an art cellar called Barolo Campè. The family’s vineyards also extend to Tuscany, covering about 65 hectares of land. Sassontino originates from one of the historic vineyards of the Casanova estate, where the sandy soil offers a Piemontese interpretation of Sangiovese. Maceration and alcoholic fermentation occur in tanks at controlled temperatures for an average period of 14-15 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, of which 20% are new and the rest are second passage barrels, followed by aging for 24 months. The wine is then aged in the bottle for about 100 months.
