Gaja Conteisa Barolo 2005

Nebbiolo 100%

Gaja’s Barolo ‘Conteisa,’ from the renowned Langhe winery, is an expression of magnificent elegance and complexity, at the peak of quality in the appellation. The grapes that give rise to this label come from the MGA Cerequio, a vineyard that Angelo Gaja chose to honor by recalling the ancient and long dispute between the municipalities of La Morra and Barolo, claiming ownership of the hills where the cru is located. Gaja Barolo ‘Conteisa’ is derived solely from Nebbiolo grapes from the Cerequio vineyard, where the soil is characterized by the presence of blue marls of Sant’Agata fossils, mostly sandy. The exposure is full south, while the altitude is about 350 meters above sea level. After manual harvesting, the clusters are destemmed in stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation, accompanied by a few weeks of contact between the must and the skins. The subsequent aging phase takes place between barriques and large barrels for a total of about 30 months, and the wine is finally bottled and subjected to a further long period of rest in glass before entering the market.
