Description
The Masseto Estate is one of the properties owned by the Frescobaldi family, situated on the slope of a hill near Bolgheri, a small village on the Tuscan coast overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is here that a magical vineyard is located, where a wine was born almost by chance: Masseto, which dates back to 1986 and owes its name to the homonymous hill where the Merlot vines are planted and the so-called “masses” of blue clay in the subsoil. Massetino is a red wine obtained from a predominantly Merlot blend, with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc, sourced from selected parcels of the vineyard that have been replanted and show great potential. It is made from hand-harvested and carefully selected grapes, destemmed and gently pressed. The wine undergoes partial vinification in steel and partly in wood, followed by aging in barriques for about 15 months.
