Mazzei, Fonterutoli, Chianti Classico DOCG 2003

Sangiovese 90% e Malvasia Nera, Colorino, Merlot per il 10%

The red Chianti Classico “Fonterutoli” is the flagship of the entire production by Mazzei, a result of a blend of grapes cultivated in 120 different vineyard parcels. Like magic, thanks to the winery’s extensive experience, these grapes come together during vinification, giving life to an elegant and well-proportioned label that is intense and soft at the same time. A classic of Tuscan Chianti, it consistently earns respectable scores on major Italian and foreign industry guides year after year. This Chianti Classico “Fonterutoli” originates from a blend where, alongside 90% Sangiovese grapes, there are also small percentages of Malvasia Nera, Colorino, and Merlot. The vines are grown using the cordon spur and guyot systems, in plots ranging from 220 to 550 meters above sea level. These plots vary in geographical location but share soil rich in skeleton, predominantly Alberese. The must ferments in stainless steel containers at a controlled temperature, macerating for 18 days. The final refinement involves the wine resting for 12 months in French oak barrels with a capacity of 225 and 500 liters, with 40% being new.
