Gaja, Sugarille, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2004

Sangiovese 100%

After the immense success achieved in Piedmont with Barolo and Barbaresco, Angelo Gaja decided to replicate his success in the historic Montalcino valley, engaging in a project where the multifaceted and aristocratic spirit of Sangiovese Grosso could be expressed following Gaja’s conception and typical wine characteristics. His Brunello di Montalcino from the “Sugarille” cru takes its name from the Latin “suber,” which means cork oak, likely indicating the prevalence of this plant in the estate during that period. The “Sugarille” distinguishes itself from other Gaja Brunellos with a noticeably darker and opulent color and a more focused and decisive concentration of fruity tones, developing across a wide aromatic spectrum. The powerful olfactory sensations range from juicy and crunchy notes of berries and cherry to pleasant and tantalizing balsamic fragrances, sweet spices, leather, and coffee. The palate entrance is of astonishing elegance, structure, and roundness, presenting lively and fleshy fruit with sweet and velvety spicy tones. A vigorous and well-polished tannin balances the drink exceptionally, closing with a long and refreshing persistence. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks, followed by maturation for at least 12 months in barriques and 12 months in large traditional barrels. An additional period of a few months in the bottle is required before the “Sugarille” is ready to be commercialized.
