Castello Banfi, Poggio all’Oro Riserva, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015

Sangiovese 100%

The Brunello di Montalcino Poggio all’Oro Riserva is produced with grapes from the “Poggio all’Oro” vineyard, located in the hilly area on the southern slope of the municipality of Montalcino, particularly suited for its favorable microclimate. The altitude is 250 meters above sea level, and the soil has a typical light olive-brown color, with a fine loamy texture and a significant presence of limestone and skeletal material. The grapes used for the production of Brunello Poggio all’Oro DOCG are 100% Sangiovese and are carefully selected within the Banfi winery. The cultivation system follows tradition with the use of spurred cordon training, achieving a very low planting density of 2,100 vines per hectare of land. The yield is around 40 quintals per hectare of vineyard.
The production technique employed by Banfi, due to its limited production, is guaranteed only in the best years, identified as “excellent” and meticulously selected with 5 stars among the harvested grapes. The maceration takes place at a controlled temperature in combined steel and Horizon wood vats, lasting for 12-14 days. After aging for 2 and a half years in barriques, the wine further refines in the bottle for at least 12-18 months before being commercialized.
