Castello dei Rampolla, d’Alceo, Toscana IGT 2001

Description

The red wine “D’Alceo” is produced in the marvelous hilly terrain of the “Conca d’Oro” valley, south of Panzano in Chianti. This is where the historic estate of Castello dei Rampolla is located, encompassing 40 hectares of vineyards planted on precious limestone soils rich in galestro. The soil and climate, thanks to the insight of the renowned winemaker Giacomo Tachis, have proven excellent not only for Sangiovese but also for Bordeaux varieties, particularly for a challenging grape like Petit Verdot, which struggles to reach full and complete ripeness in other areas.The Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot vines are unique in being grown in the alberello (bush vine) system, following biodynamic agricultural practices. Fermentations take place in cement vats using only indigenous yeasts. The wine then matures for 18 months in oak barriques and undergoes further refinement for another 30 months in the bottle.
