Tasca d’Almerita Tenuta Regaleali ‘Rosso del Conte’ Contea di Sclafani 2014

Nero d’avola 63%, Cabernet Sauvignon 37%

The Rosso del Conte, born in 1970, stands as the first expression of high quality and longevity produced in Sicily. Conceived and created by Count Giuseppe, it embodies the characteristics of the Tenuta Regaleali. Originally a blend of Perricone and Nero d’Avola grapes, grown as bush vines in the San Lucio vineyard, its history has been long and marked by various evolutions, including different types of aging. From 1970 to 1987, it aged in large chestnut barrels, then moved to large Slavonian oak barrels until 1991, and subsequently in tonneaux and French oak barriques. It was the first Single Vineyard wine in Sicily. A groundbreaking expression, mindful of the winery’s tradition. The grape blend consists of 54% Nero d’Avola, 26% Perricone, and the best selection of other red grapes from the estate, reaching a maximum of 20%. The grapes are sourced from within the Tenuta Regaleali, in the province of Palermo, at the heart of Sicily. Since its inception, it has been almost entirely Nero d’Avola from a vineyard planted in 1954 as bush vines with a small addition of Perricone, aged in large chestnut barrels, and still today represents the finest expression of the Tenuta Regaleali.
