Dominio de Pingus ‘Pingus’ – Ribera del Duero 1998

Tempranillo 100%

Pingus is the first wine produced by the winery. It gained notoriety when Jeffrey Davies, a Bordeaux négociant, brought some samples of Pingus ’95 – the first vintage produced – to France. In 1997, another event contributed to making Pingus a niche wine: a ship bound for the United States sank with 75 cases of Pingus on board. The vineyards are divided into three parcels: one in San Cristòbal, covering 1.2 hectares with 70-year-old vines, and two near Parroso, covering 3.5 hectares, with 2.5 hectares hosting 60-year-old vines, all cultivated with Tinto Fino – also known as Tempranillo. The terrains are entirely different from one another: from extremely calcareous to clayey, all covered with stones.
