Vincent Girardin, Le Montrachet Grand Cru 2004

Chardonnay 100%

Montrachet is the most famous Grand Cru Blanc in Burgundy. The vineyard is located partly in the municipal territory of Puligny-Montrachet and partly in that of Chassagne-Montrachet, in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. Vincent Girardin cultivates a small plot exposed to the east: here, the harvest is done manually, and the sorting is carried out with care and meticulousness. The grapes are gently pressed in a pneumatic press to achieve a slow extraction. After a gentle decantation, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels of 228 liters (30% new) for fermentation and malolactic fermentation. Finally, aging on fine lees imparts structure and complexity to the whole. One month before bottling, the wines from different barrels are transferred to a stainless steel tank for blending. This Montrachet Grand Cru presents itself with a bright golden color and a rich bouquet with notes of hazelnut and honey. Thanks to its aromatic intensity, it will pair wonderfully with various gourmet recipes: grilled lobster, veal sweetbreads, oysters, and shellfish. It will fully reveal its potential after a few years of aging.
