Joseph Drouhin, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020

Chardonnay 100%

Corton-Charlemagne is the only vineyard in Burgundy bearing the name of two emperors: ‘Corton’ comes from the Gallo-Roman Curtis d’Othon, meaning the Domaine of Othon, a German emperor. It gave the word ‘Courthon,’ which became ‘Corton.’ Famous emperor Charlemagne (Carolus Magnus) was, according to legend, the owner of the vineyard. This wine comes from grapes and musts purchased from supply partners according to rigorous specifications. The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in open-work crates. If necessary, a careful sorting process is carried out. Slow pressing occurs in a pneumatic press, with the juice of the last press separated from the free-run juice. The juice is then transferred into wine barrels after a brief settling. Alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation, and aging are processed in oak barrels, with approximately 30% of the barrels being new. The aging period lasts between 18 to 21 months.
