Chateau d’Yquem, Sauternes 2000

Sémillon 80%, Sauvignon 20%

Chateau d’Yquem is a legendary and iconic name in Sauternes wine production. Its fame and success have earned it the exclusive classification of Premier Cru Superieur, also known as Premier Grand Cru, in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. For over four centuries, Yquem has been synonymous with the world’s finest botrytized wine, made from grapes affected by Botrytis Cinerea, the noble rot that allows sugar concentration, resulting in sweet wines of elegant aromatic complexity. Approximately 120 hectares of vineyards are cultivated with very low yields and careful selection of the best grape clusters, resulting in an annual production of only around 70,000 bottles. Located in the small subregion of Graves in the southwest of Bordeaux, Yquem primarily cultivates Semillon and Sauvignon grapes, which are the basis for the Chateau D’Yquem Premier Grand Cru. Fermentation and aging take place exclusively in new oak barrels. The unique climatic conditions of the area, characterized by significant temperature fluctuations and high humidity levels, allow the production of these nectars of unparalleled quality and value.
